UFC 172 results: Full results: Jones vs. Teixeira

We will be covering UFC 172: Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira tonight. The prelims are about to start on Fox Sports 1. We will begin our coverage shortly. They are in Baltimore, Maryland tonigiht.

Prelims on Fox Sports 1

Charlie Brennemen vs. Danny Castillo. One punch knockout. Castillo knocked Brennemen out cold. Winner: Castillo by knockout.

Ariel Helwani interviews Glover’s trainer John Hackleman. He says that he’s more confident for this fight than any other fight. He says that Glover’s training camp was perfect and he’s never seen anything like Glover’s power.

Jessamyn Duke vs. Bethe Correia. Correia landed some good kicks. Round 1 was a close round though. Round 2 Duke scored a takedown and almost got a guillotine on Correia. Correia is busted open. Correia was able to get side control. Some nice transitions by Correia.  Correia got another takedown. Ronda Rousey is in attendance. I’d say that round 2 goes to Jessamyn Duke. Correia landed more shots in the 3rd round and stayed busy. Duke seems off. It’s a close fight but I’d give it to Correia because she stayed busy overall. Duke did get a takedown in the 3rd round but lost position right away. Judges scores 30-27, 29-28, 30-27 by unanimous decision for Bethe Correia.

Takanori Gomi vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg. Vallie-Flagg landed some good shots early. He also landed some good elbow shots from the ground. Gomi got Isaac’s back briefly but Vallie-Flagg slipped out. I’d say Vallie-Flagg won the 1st round. Gomi looks exhausted. Round 2. Gomi got some good shots in but he looks very tired. He was able to close the gap on strikes landed. Vallie-Flagg is bleeding under his right eye. It’s swollen really bad. Looks like Gomi may have won this round. Round 3. Vallie-Flagg’s eye looks really bad now.  Vallie-Flagg took Gomi down, took his back and landed some shots but Gomi got up quickly. Fans chanting for Gomi now. Vallie-Flagg’s eye is closed shut. This is a very close fight now. Gomi hit a great combination with 1:50 left. Vallie-Flagg is gushing blood now. Vallie-Flagg took Gomi down with 20 seconds left but didn’t do much damage. He did land some elbows towards the end. It’s up to the judges. 29-28 from all 3 judges. Winner: Takanori Gomi.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Timothy Elliott. Elliott got a nice takedown early and got a crucifix on Benavidez. Benavidez got a nasty looking guillotine towards he end of the round. Elliott had to tap with his foot. Winner by submission. Joseph Benavidez.

Chris Beal vs. Patrick Williams. This originally aired before the FS1 broadcast. Beal KO’s Williams with a flying knee in the 2nd round.

 

Pay-Per-View broadcast

Max Holloway vs. Andre Fili. Filii got a takedown but Holloway got up quickly. Fili landed more strikes in the 1st round. Fili stayed busy. He probably won the 1st round. Round 2. Holloway started out aggressive with some nice knees to the body against the cage. Fili got a takedown. Referee stood them up. Close round but Holloway probably won that round. Round 3. Fili got his third takedown of the fight in this round. Holloway stuffed the fourth takedown attempt. Holloway got some good shots in and locked in a guillotine for the submission win. Winner: Max Holloway. Holloway dedicated the fight to his father who passed away earlier this week.

Jim Miller vs. Yancy Medeiros. Maderios got hurt by a punch early in the 1st round. Miller locked in a guillotine. Medeiros refused to give up and passed out. Winner by submission: Jim Miller.

Tim Boetsch vs. Luke Rockhold. Rockhold locked in a leg triangle early in the fight on the ground. Rockhold then submitted Boetsch with an kimura arm submission. Quick win for Luke Rockhold. Rockhold said that he wants VItor Belfort to earn his title shot. If he can’t get Belfort then he wants Michael Bisping.

Chuck Liddell and Ray Lewis are in attendance.

Phil Davis vs. Anthony Johnson. Johnson hit some nasty uppercuts and damaged Davis’ left eye. Davis is bleeding from his left eye. Johnson stuffed 3 takedown attempts and clearly won that 1st round. Round 2. Johnson landed a head kick and a nice uppercut. He looks really good so far. Johnson got in several big shots in this round. Johnson stuffed another takedown. Davis will lose this fight unless he can make something happen in the next round. 3rd round. He stuffed another takedown attempt and landed some more big shots. No one has dominated Phil Davis like this. This should be an easy one for the judges. 30-27 by all 3 judges for Anthony Johnson. Johnson is on a 7-fight win streak. He thanked Dana White for letting him go and allowing him to go out and get better before bringing him back to UFC.

Glover Teixeira vs. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. Jones did the Ray Lewis dance before he walked into the arena. Round 1. Teixeira connected early with some right hands and kicks to the body. Ref called time after Jon accidentally poked Teixeira in the eye. Jones got a nice takedown after catching Teixera’s leg but Teixeira was up quickly. Jones hit a nasty looking spinning back kick to the body. Close round but Jones probably won that one. Round 2. Teixeira stuffed a takedown attempt. Glover might have been hurt after getting caught with an elbow against the cage. Ref warned Jones again for the finger in the eye. Next time he’ll take a point away from Jones. Teixeira got a flurry of punches up against the cage. Jones recovered. Jones hit a head kick and an elbow. Jones hit a spinning back kick to the body. Jones won that round. Round 3. Jones is throwing mostly left hands. Rogan thinks Jones might have an injury to the right hand. Jones hit an uppercut. Teixeira stuffed a takedown. Jones got Teixeira up against the cage and landed some elbows and cut Teixeira open. Jon hit a nice kick and a left hand followed by a right and some uppercuts against the cage. Teixeira landed some uppercuts but Jones took this round and this fight so far. Round 4. Teixeira has a huge cut over his right eyebrow. Jones dominates again with body strikes against the cage. Ref calls time after Teixeira’s mouth piece falls out. Jones opened up Glover’s cut again. Jones gets Glover up against the cage again and hits an uppercut and lands more punches. Knee to the body. Jones dominates this round. He took Glover down as the round came to a close. Jones wins round 4 and the entire fight so far. Round 5. Glover’s corner told him that he needs a knockout to win this fight. Another takedown by Jones. Glover’s cut looks bad and he’s tired. Glover got some uppercuts but Jones got some head shots and body shots. Jones with a flurry of punches against the cage and Glover’s mouthpiece falls out again. Crowd boos. Ref tells Glover not to spit it out again. Jon with hard elbows. Glover hit an uppercut. Jones hit an elbow up against the cage. Glover’s legs are wobbly.  Fight is over. Judge’s scores up next. All three judge scores are 50-45 for Jon Jones. Jones thanked god and Ray Lewis. Glover said that he may have injured his shoulder and may have a broken rib. Glover was gracious, thanked his sponsors, everyone, and said that Jones beat him at his best.
