UFC closed out the year at The Forum in Inglewood, California. UFC 232 was headlined by the return of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson.
There was a cloud hanging over the main event heading into Saturday night due to the show being moved from Las Vegas to California after the NSAC announced that they would not license Jones due to Turinabol metabolites in his system. UFC executive Jeff Novitzky said that the metabolites in his system were from residual from his UFC 214 drug test failure. Jones hoped to bury all of the negativity on Saturday night.
Jon Jones won via KO with ground strikes to become the undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. In the post-fight interview, Jones called out Daniel Cormier. He said that Cormier should prove that he’s the “champ champ” and the belt will be waiting “right here.”
In the semi-main event, Amanda Nunes moved up a weight class to challenge for Cris Cyborg’s Women’s Featherweight Championship. Nunes destroyed Cyborg at 51 seconds of the first round. Nunes won via KO after hitting some vicious blows to the face that caused Cyborg to faceplant to the canvas.
