UFC executive Tom Wright Not Happy With Sam Alvey following UFC Fight Night 65

As seen at UFC Fight Night 65, Sam Alvey beat Daniel Kelly by TKO (punches) at 0:49, R1 on the preliminary card of the event. Also seen at the event was Alvey having sponsor logo tanned on his chest.

Tom Wright, managing director of UFC Operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, addressed the logo and was not too happy about it.

“Fighters definitely can’t do that, it’s against our policy, said at the post-fight presser. You can put your sponsors on your shorts, you can put your sponsors on your banner, but you can’t put your sponsors on your butt.”

Sam Alvey (26-6) 17 KOs, 2 subs, 7 decision wins in his career and is 5-1 in six bouts while currently riding a three-fight winning streak. Alvey beat Wes Swofford in May of 2014 by fourth round knockout and then beat Gerald Meerschaert by unanimous decision in May of 2014 while fighting on the local MMA shows. He made his UFC debut against Tom Watson in August of 2014 by lost by unanimous decision, but rebounded with two first-round knockouts of Dylan Andrews in November of 2014 and then Cesar Feria in February of 2015. He knocked out Daniel Kelly at UFC Fight Night 65.

“It was completely offside,” he said. “We’ve got a policy for that. We didn’t see it until before the fight. We tried to do something to remove it; it was unremovable. But we’ve spoken to Sam. He understands the situation. Guarantee it won’t happen again.”

UFC Fight Night 65 took place on Saturday, May 9th at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia and aired on exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

The event drew an announced attendance of 7,984 for a live gate of $1,051,000 Australian ($833,810 US).
