UFC Fight Night 65: Hunt vs. Miocic play-by-play results

[Show: UFC Fight Night 65] [Location: Adelaide, Australia] [Date: 5/9/15] [Airing Live On UFC Fight Pass]

PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Night, 7:45 p.m. ET)

Flyweight Bout: Ben Nguyen vs. Alptekin Ozkilic

Round 1: Nguyen working over the legs of Oz with leg kicks early. Oz got off balance early, Oz with a good left, right combo within the first minute. Nguyen with a lot of stance switching, Oz shot in but stuffed, Nguyen landed a right hand that hurt Oz, he ran after him and dropped him with a flurry. Nguyen gets the back of Oz, but Oz scrambled to his feet then gets a trip takedown. Oz on top in guard, he lands some good elbows from the top. Nguyen scrambles off his back to his feet, he gets up, exchanges in the clinch with Oz with about 2 minutes left. Oz is doing well with counter shots. Oz with a good left hook, oz shot in and got a quick takedown. Nguyen back to his feet quickly, Oz with a good straight right to the temple. They exchange in the pocket, Nguyen with a left hook and finishes the fight.

Welterweight Bout: Vik Grujic vs. Brendan O’Reilly

Round 1: They clinch right away, O’Reilly presses forward and puts Vik on the fence. O’Reilly gets double under hooks, he looks for a takedown and gets it at 3:05. That took a lot of time to get that takedown. Vik scrambles to his feet, O’Reilly stays on him and presses him on to the fence. Vik explodes with a series of punches, but this makes him open and O’Reilly gets a takedown. He lands in top position in half guard at 1:45. O’Reilly works him over up against the fence with elbows and strikes. O’Reilly gets on mount and lands some devastating elbows. Vik scrambles and gets out to his feet to end the round.

Round 2: Vik throws a kick that lands on the chest of O’Reilly. O’Reilly with punches in bunches. They clinch near the fence, they exchange some elbows. Vik with five-straight right hands to the face of O’Reilly. DEFENSE SON! Vik continues to T off on him. O’Reilly begins to gas as Vik continues to put on the pressure. O’Reilly gets out of the clinch, he kicked Vik in the face and then went for a double leg, which he got at 2:20. Vik back to his feet and he shoots in for a double-leg. O’Reilly doesn’t allow it, stays on his feet in the clinch. This is a sloppy fight, but pretty good. Vik landed a head kick followed by some punches. Vik gets a late round takedown, on O’Reilly’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke, but the bell sounds.gas as Vik continues to put on the pressure. O’Reilly gets out of the clinch, he kicked Vik in the face and then went for a double leg, which he got at 2:20. Vik back to his feet and he shoots in for a double-leg. O’Reilly doesn’t allow it, stays on his feet in the clinch. This is a sloppy fight, but pretty good. Vik landed a head kick followed by some punches. Vik gets a late round takedown, on O’Reilly’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke, but the bell sounds.

Round 3: They clinch right away, O’Reilly uses the knees to the gut of Vik early on. Vik breaks the clinch as he kneed O’Reilly in the gut. Vi shoots in on a single leg, but lets it go. O’Reilly shoots in and gets his own single leg at 1:35. Both guys exhausted. O’Reilly on top in guard working over Vik with strikes. Vik back to his feet as the fight ends.

Result: Brendan O’Reilly def. Vik Grujic via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Women’s Strawweight Bout: Alex Chambers vs. Kailin Curran

Round 1: They both exchange leg kicks, Curran with a huge right hand. They clinch, but Curran scrambled out. Curran press on, but Chambers gets a double leg takedown at 4:12. Curran scrambles out and gets on top about thirty seconds later. She is in half guard, she lands some elbows to the face of Chambers. Curran blasts away at her, Chambers to her feet at 2:45. Curran with a good right that hurts Chambers. Curran countered with a left hook, Chambers just missed a head kick at 1:45. Chambers looked and got a double leg takedown with one minute remaining. Curran gets to her feet just seconds later. They clinch, Curran with short left hooks.

Round 2: Curran continues to land an overhand right hand. Chambers with a lead left kick to the chest of Curran. Chambers shot in, but stuffed. Curran reverses and clinches with Chambers on the fence. They break at 3:15, Curran throws a good combo. Chambers back peddling fast. Curran with a right hand that drops Chambers. Curran on top in half guard with 1:40 remaining and landing some big strikes. Chambers back to her feet, but Curran keeps coming and lands some big shots. Chambers dropped down with an armbar on Curran, but nothing dangerous and the bell sounds.

Round 3: Chambers is exhausted and is showing it badly. Curran is growing in confidence, she continues to press forward and unloads with a good combo about thirty seconds into this round. Chambers lands a good 1-2 strike. Curran with a takedown, but Chambers went for an elbow lock from the bottom. She switched to an armbar and Curran taps out!!!

Result: Alex Chambers def. Kailin Curran via submission (armbar) – Round 3, 3:15

Middleweight Bout: Dylan Andrews vs. Brad Scott

Round 1: Andrews with a sick counter right hook to the face of Scott. Andrews shot in on a double leg, but sprawled and Scott clinched up with him. Scott put him on the fence, Andrews caught him with a right uppercut that put Scott on his back. Scott recovered then scrambled to his feet. Scott with a double leg takedown, but Andrews right back to his feet. Scott in the clinch and working him over with knees. Andrews with another uppercut while up against the fence that drop Scott again. Scott back to his feet, still in the clinch. Andrews locked in a guillotine choke/crank, but Scott got out and to his feet in the clinch. Scott with some knees to the chest of Andrews.

Round 2: Andrews worked over the body of Scott with strikes. Scott starting to open up with more jabs. Andrews is starting to slow down, but then exploded with a series of right hands. The fight stopped for a moment after being poked in the eye. The fight is back on, Andrews stumbled and fell, Scott get his back, but Andrews rolled over and now Scott is in half guard on top. Scott with some big elbows then went for a guillotine choke that falls into mount and Andrews taps!

Result: Bradley Scott def. Dylan Andrews via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 2, 4:54

Women’s Strawweight Bout: Lisa Ellis vs. Bec Rawlings

Round 1: Both girls run out at each other, Ellis with a double leg takedown within the first ten seconds. Bec looks for a triangle, but Ellis passes and gets half guard. Ellis went for an armbar, but Bec blocked and got on top in guard Beg lands some good strikes from the top. Ellis rolled through, she went for a double, but Bec tossed her aside and got into side control. Bec went for a standing guillotine choke, but Ellis escaped. they exchanged in the pocket, Bec fired away with short elbows. Bec drops down and gets the back of Ellis. She locked in a rear-naked choke and got the win. Bec is bleeding from her left temple, but a win is a win.

Result: Bec Rawlings def. Lisa Ellis via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 4:09

Middleweight Bout: Sam Alvey vs. Daniel Kelly

Round 1: Both fighters come out swinging, Alvey with a good left hook. Alvey caught him with a right hand and put Kelly to sleep. GOOD GOD! By the way, Alvey has perfection taned on his chest.

Result: Sam Alvey def. Daniel Kelly by TKO (punches) at 0:49, R1

Welterweight Bout: Kyle Noke vs. Jonavin Webb

Round 1: Webb in a low stance to start out the fight while using some quick footwork. Webb shot in, but stuffed by Noke. Kyle Noke landed a kick to the center of Webb’s chest. Webb throws a huge right hook and misses that almost has him fall on his face Come on bro. Webb clinches and puts Noke on the fence. He goes for a footlock but Noke gets out. Noke back to his feet, but moments later Webb gains a double leg takedown. Webb gets the back of Noke with just thirty seconds left in the rounds. Webb can’t get it locked in and the bell sounds.

Round 2: Webb with an opening round right hook that dropped Bok and Webb’s jumps into half guard on top. Noke tries to scramble out, he does and is now standing. He throws some leg kicks, Noke jumps into half guard where he rains down some strikes. Noke goes for a heel hook, but Webb scrambled out and to his feet where he gets a double leg takedown into half guard. Noke back to his feet to end the round.

Round 3: For the first two minutes of this round there was no action. A lot of switching stances, backing off and sloppy strikes. Webb landed a good right hook as Noke works over Webb’s legs with kicks. Noke dropped him with a sweeping leg kick to the back of Webb’s legs. Webb back to his feet and they exchange to the bell.

Result: Kyle Noke def. Jonavin Webb via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28)

Featherweight Bout: Hatsu Hioki vs. Daniel Hooker

Round 1: A feeling out process early, at 3:30, Hioki landed a left hook to the jaw of Hooker. Hioki fired back with a right hook. Hioki accidentally got poked in the eye, so there was a brief stoppage. Back to fighting. Hioki’s fists are so fast. Hooker using kicks to mix up his strikes pretty well. Hioki with a good left, right combo. Hioki gets a takedown at 1:27, he falls into half guard. Hooker escaped and got to his feet with just seconds left in the round.

Round 2: Hooker threw a head kick, but it was caught by Hioki and he took advantage by getting a double leg takedown. Hooker scrambled out and to his feet. Hooker press this action with some strikes, Hioki answered with a good combo. Hioki hurt him with a body kick. To his credit, Hooker presses forward and nailed him with a sick head kick for the knockout finish.

Result: Daniel Hooker def. Hatsu Hioki via knockout (kick and punches) – Round 2, 4:13

MAIN CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 11 p.m. ET)

Lightweight Bout: Jake Matthews vs. James Vick

Round 1: Matthews caught Vick with a left hook that leads to clinching with Vick on the fence. Matthews slammed Vick down to the ground with a double leg. Vick crawls to the fence and wall walks to his feet. They separate, Matthews tagged him with a left hook. Matthews is more explosive and quicker than the two fighter so far. Vick threw a head kick, but no damage was behind it. Vick with a flying knee to the face of Matthews then landed some short right hands. Vick locked in a guillotine choke for the win!

Result: James Vick def. Jake Matthews via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 4:53

Light Heavyweight Bout: Sean O’Connell vs. Anthony Perosh

Round 1: Less than a minute into the fight, O’Connell starts swinging for the fences and finishes Perosh on his feet with some devastating strikes.

Result: Sean O’Connell def. Anthony Perosh via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 0:56

Co-Main Event – Middleweight Bout: #14 Brad Tavares vs. Robert Whittaker

Round 1: Whittaker tagged Brad with a left hook, he nailed it again and dropped Brad. He jumped on top of him and finished him with strikes from the top.

Result: Robert Whittaker def. Brad Tavares via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 0:44

Main Event – Heavyweight Bout: #5 Mark Hunt vs. #4 Stipe Miocic

Round 1: Hunt with an opening round leg kick. Miocic with single leg takedown, but Hunt scrambled to his feet right away. Hunt tagged him with a left hook. Miocic answered with a straight right. Miocic with a single leg takedown and right away goes into half guard. Miocic with some short, but effective elbows to the face of Hunt. Miocic controls the remaining time of the round in this position.

Round 2: Miocic with back-to-back jabs to open the round. Miocic mixes things up with somebody strikes. Miocic with a single leg takedown, Miocic presses Hunt backward to the fence and lands some short strikes. After eating several punches, Hunt makes his way to his feet. Miocic starts firing off on the fence of Mark Hunt with his hands. Hunt’s cardio is fading fast, but staying in the fight. Miocic clinches and puts Hunt on the fence as he works him over. Hunt with a flurry of punches to end the round.

Round 3: Hunt keeps coming in this fight until Miocic gets the double leg takedown right into half guard. Miocic with some elbows from the top to the face of Hunt. Miocic also mixes it up with some elbows as well. Hunt makes it over to the fence as Miocic continues to drill off on the face of Hunt Mark Hunt makes his way up to his feet, but Miocic drops him with a double leg and gets on mount. Miocic with hammer fist that should have finished the fight, but didn’t. The fans attempt to get behind Hunt, but it’s not enough as Miocic T’s off on Hunt. Mark Hunt somehow will make it to the fourth round. Hunt is a bloody mess.

Round 4: Hunt with a right hook, Miocic with a counter right jab. Miocic gets a single leg takedown and falls into half guard. Miocic with more and more punches to the swollen, bloody and defeated face/head of Hunt. Mark Hunt manages to crawl over to the fence and to his feet. Miocic with a huge left hand that wobbled Hunt. The fans are still behind Hunt as Miocic clinched with him on the fence.

Round 5: The doctor checked on Hunt as we begin this round. As soon as the round starts, Miocic gets a double leg takedown right away. Miocic continues to dominate Hunt as he did the entire fight. Miocic finishes him with punches in the corner and wins by TKO.
