UFC on Fox 15 preview – Rockhold vs. Machida, Camozzi vs. Souza & more



UFC on Fox 15 takes place on April 18th in Newark, NJ at the Prudential Center and will air on Fox and Fight Pass.

The main event will be a middleweight bout between Luke Rockhold (13-2) and Lyoto Machida (22-5) and the co-main event is Chris Camozzi vs. Ronaldo Souza.

The fights start at 4:15 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass with four fights. The prelims will air on big fox starting at 6 p.m. ET with another four fights taking place. The main card starts at 8 p.m. ET.

The other two fights on the main card is Felice Herrig vs. Paige VanZant and Max Holloway vs. Cub Swanson.

We will be providing live play-by-play coverage of UFC on Fox 15 on Saturday starting at 4:15PM EST.

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)

– Fight: Lyoto Machida vs. Luke Rockhold

Lyoto Machida (22-5) 9 KO, 2 Sub & 11 DEC wins. He is 3-2 in his last five fights, currently 1-1 in his last two and 2-1 in his last three bouts. He is currently on a one fight winning streak. He lost to Phil Divas at UFC 163 by unanimous decision, but then beat Mark Munoz in October of that same year by first round head kick and then Gegard Mousasi in February of 2014 by unanimous decision. He lost to Chris Weidman in a Middleweight Title bout at UFC 175 by a five-round unanimous decision. In his next and last bout prior to UFC on Fox 15, he beat C.B Dollaway in December of 2014 by first round TKO.

Luke Rockhold (13-2) 3 KO, 8 Sub & 2 DEC wins. Rockhold is 4-1 in his last five fights and coming into UFC on Fox 15, he is on a three fight winning streak. He beat Tim Kennedy in June of 2012 under the Strikeforce banner by a five-round decision victory. He made his UFC debut against Vitor Belfort, but lost by first round head kick in May of 2013. He then went on to beat Costas Philippou in January of 2014 by first round kick to the body knockout. Then beat Tim Boetsch at UFC 172 by first round triangle kimura. In his next and latest bout, he beat Michael Bisping in November of 2014 by second round guillotine choke.

Prediction: Lyoto Machida by UD

Fight: Chris Camozzi vs. Ronaldo Souza

Chris Camozzi (20-9) 5 KO, 7 Sub & 8 DEC wins. Camozzi is currently on a one fight winning streak heading into UFC on Fox 15. In his last five bouts, he is 1-4, three of those losses come by decision and one of those losses come by triangle choke. He lost to Ronaldo Souza by first round triangle choke in May of 2013, then lost to Lorenz Larkin by unanimous decision in November of 2013. He lost back to back fights by split decision to Bruno Santos at UFC 175 and then to Rafael Natal in September of 2014. He beat Jeremy Kimball by first round rear-naked-choke in November of 2014.

Ronaldo Souza (21-3) 2 KO, 15 Sub & 4 DEC wins. Souza is currently on a seven fight winning streak. He has finished four out of his last five fights, three coming by submission and one coming by knockout. He beat Ed Herman in Strikeforce in January of 2013 by first round kimura. He made his UFC debut against Chris Camozzi, which he won by first round triangle choke in May of 2013. In his next three bouts he beat Yushin Okami in September of 2013 by first round TKO, then beat Francis Carmont in February of 2014 by unanimous decision. In his next and last bout prior to UFC on Fox 15, he beat Gegard Mousasi in September of 2014 by third round guillotine choke.

Prediction: Ronaldo Souza by UD.

– Fight: Max Holloway vs. Cub Swanson

Max Holloway (12-3) 5 KO, 1 Subs & 6 Dec wins. Hollway is currently on a five fight winning streak heading into UFC on Fox 15. He has finished four out of his five bouts by either knockout or submission. He beat Will Cope by 2nd round TKO in January of 2014, then caught Andre Fili in a third round Guillotine choke at UFC 172 and then finished Clay Collard by third round TKO in August of 2014. He knocked out Akira Corassani in October of 2014 by first round knockout. In his next and latest fight before UFC on Fox 15, he beat Cole Miller in February of 2015 by unanimous decision.

Cub Swanson (21-6) 8 KO, 7 Subs & 6 Dec wins. He is 4-1 in his last five bouts, currently on a one fight losing streak prior to UFC on Fox 15. He beat Charles Oliveira at UFC 152 by first round knockout, then beat Dustin Poirier in February of 2013 by unanimous decision and then knocked out Dennis Siver at UFC 162 in third round TKO. He beat Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision in June of 2014. In his next/latest fight, he lost to Frankie Edgar in November of 2014 by a fifth round neck crank submission.

– Fight: Felice Herrig vs. Paige VanZant

Felice Herrig (10-5) 1 KO, 3 Subs & 6 Dec wins. She is 4-1 in her last five bouts and currently riding a one fight winning streak. She beat Simona Soukupova in August of 2012 by unanimous decision, then Patricia Vidonic in december of 2012 under the Bellator MMA banner and then beat Heather Clark in March of 2013 while still being in Bellator by split decision. She fought and lost in her next bout while in Inicia FC against Tecia Torres by  unanimous decision. In her next/latest bout, she beat Lisa Ellis in her UFC debut at the TUF 20 Finale last december by second round armbar.

Paige VanZant (4-1) 1 KO, 1 Subs & 2 Dec wins. She is currently on a two fight winning streak and is making her second UFC appearance at UFC on Fox 15. She beat Jordan Nicole Gaza in June of 2012 by split decision in her MMA debut. She beat Amber Stautzenberger in September of 2012 by unanimous decision. Her first loss came to erica Torres in January of 2013 by unanimous decision, but rebounded with a win over Courtney Himes in April of 2013 by first round rear-naked-choke. In her next/latest bout, she beat Kailin Curran by third round TKO in November of 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Swanson.

PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX, 6 p.m. ET)

– Fight: Beneil Dariush vs. Jim Miller

Beneil Dariush (10-1) 2 KO, 6 Sub & 2 DEC wins. Dariush is currently on a three fight winning streak and is 4-1 in his last five fights. He has finished three out of those four wins. He beat Charlie Brenneman in January of 2014 by first round rear-naked choke, he lost to Ramsey Nijem in April of 2014 by first round TKO. He then beat Tony Marin in August by second round arm-triangle choke, Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 179 by unanimous decision and then Daron Cruickshank at UFC 185 in the second round by rear-naked choke.

Jim Miller (24-5) 3 KO, 14 Subs & 7 Dec wins. He is 3-1-1 in his last five bouts. Two of those wins come by submission and one comes by decision. He beat Joe Lauzon by unanimous decision at UFC 155, but then went to fight Pat Healy at UFC 159, but the fight was overturned by the commission, so it was a no contest. He beat Fabricio Camoes at UFC 168 by first round armbar, then followed it up with a first round guillotine choke at UFC 172 over Yancy Medeiros. In his In his next/latest bout prior to UFC on Fox 15, he lost to Donald Cerrone in July of 2014 by second round knockout.

Prediction:  Jim Miller by 3rd RD TKO

– Fight: Patrick Cummins vs. Ovince St. Preux

Patrick Cummins (7-1) 3 KO, 2 Subs & 2 Dec wins. He is currently on a three fight winning streak, finishing two out of his last five bouts. He beat Willie Smalls at a local show in May of 2013 by first round guillotine choke. He made his UFC debut against Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, but lost by first round TKO. He then rattled off three wins, he beat Roger Narvaez in June of 2014 by second round TKO, Kyle Kingsbury in July of 2014 by unanimous decision and then in his next bout, he beat Antonio Carlos Jr. by unanimous decision in december of 2014.

Ovince St. Preux (17-6) 8 KO, 5 Subs & 4 Dec wins. OSP is 4-1 in his last five bouts, currently riding a one fight winning streak and has finished all four of those wins by either knockout or submission. He beat Cody Donovan in August of 2013 by first round knockout, he beat Nikita Krylov at UFC 171 by shoulder-choke in the first round and then beat Ryan Jimmo at UFC 174 by second round kimura submission. He lost to Ryan Bader in August of 2014 by unanimous decision. In his next bout, he beat Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in November of 2014 by first round KO.

Prediction: Ovince St. Preux by 2nd RD TKO.

– Fight: Corey Anderson vs. Gian Villante

Corey Anderson (5-0) 3 KO, 0 Subs & 2 Dec wins. He is obviously undefeated, he has finished three out of his five victories by first round knockouts. He beat J.R Burones at a local show in March of 2013 by first round KO, he beat Myron Dennis in June of 2013 under the XFL promotion by unanimous decision and then beat Stephen Flanagan in August of 2013 a local show by first round knockout. He made his UFC debut against Matt Van Buren at TUF 19 finale in July of 2014 by first round knockout. In his next bout, he beat Justin Jones at UFC 181 in December of 2014 by unanimous decision.

Gian Villante (12-5) 7 KO, 2 Subs & 3 Dec wins. He is 3-2 in his last five bouts. He beat Derrick Mehmen by unanimous decision in May of 2012 under the Strikeforce banner, he then made his UFC debut against Ovince ST. Preux at UFC 159 by majority decision. He then beat Cody Donovan at UFC 167 by second round knockout, lost to Fabio Maldonado in March of 2014 by unanimous decision and then in his next bout beat Sean O’Connell in June of 2014 by split decision.

– Fight: Aljamain Sterling vs. Takeya Mizugaki

Aljamain Sterling (10-0) 2 KO, 4 Subs & 4 Dec wins. He obviously undefeated, he is 2-0 while in the UFC and has finished four out of his last five by either submission or TKO. While fighting under the CFFC promotion, which he was champion of for some time. He beat Casey Johnson in April of 2012 by rear-naked choke in the third round, he beat Sidemar Honorio in August of 2012 by second round rear-naked choke and then beat Joel Roberts in November of 2013 by first round rear-naked choke. He made his UFC debut against Cody Gibson, he beat him by unanimous decision at UFC 170 and then in his next bout, he beat Hugo Viana in July of 2014 by third round TKO.

Takeya Mizugaki (20-8) 5 KO, 1 Subs & 14 Dec wins. In his last five bouts, he is 4-1. He is currently on a one fight losing streak. He beat Bryan Caraway in March of 2013 by split decision, he beat Erik Perez in August of 2013 by split decision and then beat Nam Phan in December of 2013 by unanimous decision. He beat Francisco Rivera at UFc 173, but lost to Dominick Cruz at UFC 178 in 1:01 of the first round. by knockout.
