UFC is still trying to make a fight happen between UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Brock Lesnar.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently reported on SportsCenter that the promotion is planning to do the fight in August. That would be Cormier’s next title defense as the UFC Heavyweight Champion. There is a pay-per-view event, UFC 240, set for August but a date and location has yet to be announced.
A Cormier vs. Lesnar fight was rumored for early 2019 at one point, but that didn’t happen. Lesnar is slated to make his next title defense as WWE Universal Champion against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35 on Sunday, April 7, 2019 in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium and be broadcasted on their streaming service, WWE Network.
Lesnar’s last fight under the UFC banner came back at UFC 200 in July of 2016 against Mark Hunt, which saw Lesnar win by decision but it was later overturned to a no contest due to him failing two USADA-issued drug tests before the bout.
Lesnar has yet to give the $250,000 to NSAC for the fine, which means he remains indefinitely suspended and won’t be licensed to fight again until this fine is paid. Thus, putting his UFC career on hold.
