A current top WWE star is rumored for a big role on upcoming ‘Young Rock’ episode

Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz was recently interviewed by NBC Boston’s Steve Fall to talk about Young Rock, his time in WWE, and several other topics.

Gewirtz said he never witnessed Vince McMahon getting upset at wrestlers getting themselves over without WWE’s help such as Zack Ryder’s Long Island Iced Z’s Youtube show:

“I don’t know if Vince wasn’t feeling Zack Ryder at a certain point or in an episode. I just think that has to do with whatever Vince’s personal opinion is of the character. I don’t think it was the, ‘How dare he use YouTube to get himself over when it wasn’t the machine that got him over, therefore he’s going to be punished.’ I never saw that. I never experienced that. If that was what was being felt by some people, that was never expressed to me, nor did I feel it myself.”

On if Rock is going to be at WrestleMania:

“I have no idea. I really don’t. All I know is if and when Rock, Dwayne, you know, comes back to WWE, the bar he always sets, and wrote about it in the book, you see it in and all those projects, and Black Adam, which we just at a screening for, it’s like, the expectation level is so high, and this audience first mentality that is very, very real, it needs to match it, and it needs to be something gigantic, and something not just like, oh, that’s a nice attraction, or that’s a main event in any arena across the country kind of thing. But like truly meaningful, impactful, ground shaking, paradigm shifting, gigantic you know. Whether or not that manifests itself in a WrestleMania main event, you know, the fan in me would love to see it if it’s the right circumstance and everything. But, I don’t know. He certainly has a lot of stuff going on between this gigantic movie coming out in October, and our Tales from the Territory show. Plus in February, oh, he’s not doing anything in February, so I got an internet report at one point saying ‘Oh, the Rock is not shooting any movies in February.’ Like no, I don’t know if he is or not, but he is launching with Dany (Garcia) a gigantic Football League. So that might take some time too because, you know, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, like no one at Seven Bucks is of the ilk of like, all right, it’s got my name on it. We’re not Krusty the Clown, like yep, put our logo on it and our face on it and let me know how it does.”

Gewirtz said there are big surprises and names that are going to appear coming up on Young Rock:

Jeff Chiang and Jenn Carreras, as we’re sitting down, it’s essentially this big Q&A session where we’re asking Dwayne for stories. I go into these things going, ‘Well, I know every story’, and I don’t. There is a major story and a major story that’s going to unfold this season that involves his grandmother and his parents that I had no idea about and nobody in the room did. We’re all like, ‘What? That happened?’ He said, ‘That absolutely happened. That’s serving as the major storyline for that era in 1985 and that season. So yeah, there are definitely going to be surprises from that perspective, and also, just like, you know, the fan in me just loves the surprises of who’s showing up this year and which wrestler is going to appear that hasn’t appeared in a previous season. I’ll just say that there are some major gigantic names in the world of WWE, both from the 80s and 90s, that have yet to appear on Young Rock in seasons one and two who are absolutely appearing in season three.”

Note: One of the rumored names appearing on this season of “Young Rock” is current WWE star Becky Lynch. There have been rumors for weeks that she would play the role of Cyndi Lauper in an episode set in 1985. This was also strongly hinted at by Scott Fishman from TV Insider.
