The top storyline in AEW is with the Devil character, as the promotion first introduced this mystery person with MJF last year at All Out to claim an AEW World Title shot before revealing he was the one under the mask. He later won the title from Jon Moxley after CM Punk was stripped of the title.
The Devil’s back
AEW brought it back in recent months with the Devil and his mystery partners attacking Jay White, The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn. White had been feuding with MJF heading into Full Gear while the babyfaces teamed with MJF on television.
This past Wednesday on Dynamite, Hangman Page was taken out by the group. Britt Baker had been reportedly ruled out as the possible person behind the Devil character.
Not the Devil?
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Page, who was slammed onto the windshield of a car during Dynamite, will be off television for a brief period to sell the attack.
There has been a lot of speculation that Jack Perry, who hasn’t been seen since All In due to his suspension following a backstage altercation with CM Punk, could be behind the Devil gimmick. Perry and Punk’s issues were after Punk took issue with Perry wanting to use real glass for a segment this past summer with Hook. Perry did a spot at All In, where he slammed Hook on the windshield of a car and made a glass reference to the camera.
Fightful noted that they got a message from one high-level source immediately after the segment with Page on Wednesday, noting they don’t believe Perry is involved in the angle. Perry hasn’t been at any AEW shows since All In, although his suspension is up.
