Adam Cole appeared on Barstool Rasslin’ to talk about his Unsanctioned match with Chris Jericho at AEW Double or Nothing. The match takes place this Sunday night.
Cole talked about Sabu being in his corner against Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing:
“When I was younger watching ECW, Sabu, obviously like many others, was one of my absolute favorites. It’s so weird to think as time goes on, because again, Sabu was a student at the game. He’s someone who’s been around for a long time. The fact that I have his respect enough for him to help me with the JAS is pretty damn cool.
On Roderick Strong being in AEW:
“Oh my God, I could not be happier. This guy is genuinely one of my absolute best friends, a guy that I’ve traveled up and down the roads with, whether it be Ring of Honor, PWG, obviously NXT as well. He’s one of the best in-ring performers in the world, in my opinion. So the fact that not only do I get the chance to spend more time with him and be around him because he’s such a good friend, but he’s such a massive asset to any wrestling company that has him, so AEW won big on that one.”
On if he thought of retiring while he was injured:
“No. I mean, I was afraid that I was going to be told I couldn’t come back. For sure, that existed for months, but there was never even a small part of me that was like, okay, I think I am going to hang it up. I was so focused and so determined on trying to come back because again, this is my entire life. Since I was nine years old, this is all I ever wanted to do. The toughest thing was having doctors look at you with this discouraged, like, we don’t know how this is gonna go. I talked about it on the show, but Britt was incredibly helpful, my family was incredibly helpful, my friends, so I tried to keep as much of an optimistic attitude as I could, but it was a rough road. But again, a long winded way of saying no. I was so focused on trying to come back for sure.”
If he would have hung it up if doctors told him he should retire:
“Yes. I was going to have to be told, ‘Listen, you can’t do this. You’re risking a huge portion of your quality of life, or you can’t get back in the ring. It’s too dangerous.’ If I was told that, that would be a different pill to swallow and I would have dealt with that as it came, but no way I was gonna go, ‘I think I’m gonna stop.'”
On the status of Kyle O’Reilly:
“He’s doing good. He’s in good spirits. He’s on the right track. There is nothing that Kyle wants to do more than come back to work especially now that Roddy is here and things like that. He seriously is one of the toughest guys that I’ve ever met, for sure. So everyone, keep your fingers and toes crossed. Kyle is doing awesome. He’s seen great progress and hopefully we’ll see him again very soon.”
