AEW Has Yet to Decide on Plans for Title Match at Full Gear

The card for AEW’s next pay-per-view event, Full Gear, which goes down next month, is coming along. However, plans for the Tag Team Titles are still unclear.

Matches confirmed thus far include AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF vs. Jay White, AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm, ROH Tag Team Champion MJF vs. The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn), and Christian Cage, Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne vs. Sting, Darby Allin & TBA.

It was originally planned for FTR to defend the AEW Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks at the show, but plans for that became in doubt once FTR lost the titles to Ricky Starks and Big Bill. It was supposed to lead to a rematch, and the winners would defend against the Young Bucks, who are the #1 contender for the titles.

As previously reported, it’s believed those plans have been dropped. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted plans have yet to be decided on.

“So, on the Collision show, they had Dax and Ricky Starks do a match. And I figured, normally the challenger wins….I don’t think that that tag title match is coming up. The last I heard is that they may do Big Bill and Ricky Starks against The Young Bucks at Full Gear, but that’s not official. It was just one of many different things that was kind of thrown out there. So I’ve got to see how this all turns out. But even so, under any circumstances, the Bucks just won the number one contenders match. And it’s never been talked about since. Yes. It’s never been brought up. They did like on any show. They’ve never had them do any interviews. And Big Bill and Ricky Starks have never talked about the Young Bucks. I don’t believe I haven’t seen every single interview that’s been done, but I’ve seen most. But there’s been no talk at all about them going for the titles since they won that thing. So it’s not a sure thing. I mean that’s what’s going to happen. But it was a thing that could happen. So that’s kind of where things stand.”
