AEW World Champion MJF vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi took place at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view event from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
MJF led the match early in a slow pace while doing some crowd work. Tanahashi fought back and hit a dive off the top rope for 2. MJF went to the top rope, but Tanahashi shoved him off then hit a sling blade for 2. MJF with a superplex. MJF sold the left knee. Tanahashi with a sling blade then went for a dive off the top rope, but MJF put up the knees. MJF tried to use the belt, but the referee took it away. Tanahashi rolled him up for 2. MJF with the right hand while wearing the diamond ring for the win.
