AEW’s Jon Moxley Has the Chance to Make NJPW History

Jon Moxley found a lot of success in WWE and continued that path in AEW where he has been positioned as a top star since his arrival at Double or Nothing 2019.

Moxley worked the NJPW Strong Independence Day events at Korakuen Hall on July 4th and 5th. On the first night, he tagged with Homicide to face El Desperado and Jun Kasai before working a Death Match against Desperado on night two.

While speaking Tokyo Sports, Moxley was asked about the idea of facing IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA. Moxley brought up being a former WWE and AEW World Heavyweight Champion, but he’s never been the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

As pointed out by Moxley and looking at past IWGP World Heavyweight Title reigns, there has never been someone to hold the world title in all three promotions (WWE, AEW, and NJPW). If he can achieve this, he will be the first-ever wrestler to do so. Moxley and Kenny Omega are the only AEW wrestlers to have won two out of three titles.

“I’ve been WWE World Heavyweight Champion and AEW World Champion, but I’m not IWGP World Heavyweight Champion yet… If I were to fight SANADA, I’d have an image of myself as the IWGP World Champion, so I think it would be interesting.”
