AEW’s Jon Moxley’s Next NJPW Match Announced

Jon Moxley is slated to make his return to NJPW, but this time it won’t be in Japan. Instead, he’s slated to work for the Strong brand next month.

This past Sunday at Dominion, Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, & Hiroshi Tanahashi retained their NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Titles over Moxley, Shota Umino, & Claudio Castagnoli.

The promotion will hold an event titled Independence Day at Korakuen Hall on July 4th and July 5th. In a video sent out by NJPW, El Desperado issued a challenge to the top AEW star where he noted that he wanted a rematch from their match in the summer of 2022, where Moxley defeated him via referee stoppage.

Moxley responded to the challenge by noting that he would be at Independence Day with former ROH World Champion Homicide, leading to a tag team match being set up that will see Moxley and Homicide take on Desperado and a partner of his choosing.

Desperado is currently a member of the Strong Style faction with Ren Narita and Minoru Suzuki.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Catch 2/2 (Francesco Akira & TJP)vs. Clark Connors & Dan Moloney has been confirmed for July 4th while NJPW Strong Openweight Champion KENTA vs. Eddie Kingston has been announced for the second night.
