There has been much speculation lately regarding William Regal’s AEW status and a potential return to WWE.
As previously reported, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has stated that there is “something going on” with Regal and also “something is in play.” However, Regal is still under a three-year contract with AEW through 2025 unless AEW President Tony Khan lets him out of the deal early.
Regal was written off AEW programming during Wednesday’s Dynamite episode when World Heavyweight Champion MJF attacked him. This was after Regal turned on Jon Moxley by costing him the title by helping MJF win it from him at Full Gear.
Pwinsider.com reported today, “All signs are that William Regal, 54, will be World Wrestling Entertainment-bound shortly.” The report added that while the company has made nothing official, “there have been rumblings within WWE of late about Regal returning in a backstage role.”
Regal and Triple H have been friends since the mid-90s, and with Triple H not being the person to let Regal go this past January, rather Vince McMahon’s decision, it’s not a surprise that Triple H wants him back. Since taking over WWE creative, Triple H has brought back people that had been released, both wrestlers and behind-the-scenes staff.
