Auschwitz Memorial calls WWE ‘shameless’ for using its image during WrestleMania video package

For months, WWE has played up an angle where Dominik Mysterio was arrested on Christmas Eve after showing up at the home of his parents to further build the program with his father, which ultimately led to Rey wrestling Dominik at WrestleMania 39.

The WWE Hall of Famer beat the young WWE star in a singles match at the show. In the video package to hype the bout on the pre-show, there was an image of the Auschwitz concentration camp used as b-roll footage, and Dominik talked about his time in prison.

It should be noted that an edited version with the image was removed when it aired during the main card portion of the show.

The Auschwitz Memorial Museum is not happy about it and has called out WWE for their promotional tactic, as seen below:

“The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call “an editing mistake”. Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz.”

KL Auschwitz was the largest of the concentration camps and extermination centers that the German Nazis had. Over 1.1 million people, including men, women, and children, lost their lives at the camp.
