Austin Theory and Grayson Waller won the WWE tag team titles in a six-pack challenge ladder match at WWE WrestleMania 40 last month.
Heading into the event, there was a rumor that Theory and Waller were not listed on a lineup despite qualifying for the event, and their status’ was TBD, leading to speculation that the tag team could be replaced in the bout.
While speaking on The Babyfaces podcast, Theory discussed this and more. Here are the highlights:
On the momentum:
“I gotta say, one of the coolest things about being in a ladder match at WrestleMania, I believe WrestleMania 25 was one of the WrestleMania’s in the past that had a ladder match. It was for a (Money in the Bank) briefcase. For me, it was such a cool moment to be that kid again and be in a ladder match at WrestleMania. The match that I remember watching and thinking that was the coolest match on the card, and now I’m in that match, and not only that, but I am becoming the new Tag Team Champion with Grayson Waller. Living the dream, dude.”
On the rumor that he wasn’t going to be in the bout:
“I didn’t see it, but I heard a lot about it. I was like, ‘Wow, somebody just wakes up and types something on the internet, and everybody believes it.’ I love it because it explains that there is just a bunch of idiots out there. When it comes to me and Grayson Waller, there was no way we weren’t going to be in the tag team ladder match. We’re the best team, all-around, on both rosters. Completely.”
