Backstage News on AEW Bringing in a Former WWE Star

AEW has a loaded roster already across Dynamite, Rampage, Collision and the ROH brand, but they will be bringing in another former WWE star for an upcoming match as a treat for the fans.

AEW has announced that Mistico, formerly known as the original Sin Cara in WWE, will make his promotional debut by wrestling Rocky Romero on the October 20th AEW Rampage.

Mistico holds the CMLL World Middleweight Championship, while Rocky is the CMLL World Historic Welterweight Champion. Many were surprised to see AEW book a CMLL talent due to their working relationship with AAA.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that booking Mistico doesn’t affect the relationship that AEW has with AAA from AEW’s side.

Meltzer wrote, “They are working with the impression they can book talent from both groups as long as the talent isn’t in the ring together. AAA doesn’t care in the sense them using CMLL talent doesn’t affect their relationship with AAA and CMLL’s lone issue would only be not having them in the same matches and through New Japan, any co-promotion with AEW and New Japan has never allowed Mexican wrestlers who last worked with AAA on the shows.”

It was added that when Tony Khan was in his early 20s, Mistico was one of his favorite wrestlers and Khan was at the WWE show where Mistico made his promotional debut. The AEW President also sent in a house show report to the Observer.
