Brian Pillman Jr. has been a topic of discussion among wrestling fans following his AEW exit and then showing up to WWE’s training facility, Performance Center, to train in Orlando, Florida.
His AEW departure happened when his contract with the promotion expired, and his profile was removed from the AEW roster on the company website. This was after he spent three years with the promotion, mostly paired with Griff Garrison, where they worked on Dark and Dark: Elevation.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there is no hiring freeze going on in WWE. Instead, WWE is limiting who they bring in until after the WWE-UFC merger.
Still, if it were a big name such as Kenny Omega, they would welcome the person, but the general feeling in WWE is that they already have so many wrestlers they’ve invested time and money in to bring someone else in with so few spots available.
Meltzer wrote, “Someone in WWE noted to us about Brian Pillman Jr., who AEW didn’t renew the contract of and his training at the Performance Center, and that while not impossible, it would be less likely he’d be hired right now until after the merger is complete.”
The WWE-UFC merger is expected to be complete later this year.
