Backstage news on the AEW contract status of a former WWE star

Trent Seven worked his second match for AEW on this week’s Rampage episode, which was taped on Wednesday night. Following this appearance, some fans have wondered what his contract status is with the promotion.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the former WWE star is signed to a per-show contract, not a full-time deal. As of this writing, there is no word yet on how many appearances he is set to make with the company.

Seven made his AEW debut on last week’s Rampage show as the mystery opponent for AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy, who Kip Sabian chose. Seven was also part of last night’s Rampage eight-man tag team main event by teaming up with Sabian, The Butcher, and The Blade for a loss to Cassidy, Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor, and Dustin Rhodes.

AEW President Tony Khan commented on Seven’s AEW future during the ROH Final Battle media scrum as he noted that Seven has “done really nice” for them and “could be a good opponent for any champions in Ring of Honor.”

Seven debuted with WWE in January 2017 for the first-ever WWE UK Title Tournament before signing with the company a few months later and being used mostly for the NXT UK brand.

When WWE shut down the NXT UK brand, he was among the names to be let go. He is a former one-time NXT UK Tag Team Champion and a former one-time NXT Tag Team Champion with his Moustache Mountain partner Tyler Bate.
