WWE has a lot of talent under contract across the main roster and NXT. There is just so much time to go around for talent across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.
The name
Von Wagner, real name Cal Bloom, played college football being recruited by WWE in 2019. He started training at the Performance Center, and when WWE started using younger stars as part of NXT 2.0 in late 2021, he received a push on television.
That same year, Wagner was used as the bodyguard for on-screen authority figure Adam Pearce. He only appeared for one episode and was sent back to NXT as it was reported that Vince McMahon felt that Pearce needed a bodyguard, and he didn’t like it. Thus, the angle was dropped after that.
Status
Most recently, he had been in a feud with Bron Breakker as a babyface, with his most recent match happening in a dark match at last week’s NXT TV event, where he beat Keanu Carver. His last TV match was on the January 5th episode of NXT TV, where and Beau Morris lost to No Quarter Catch Crew (Damon Kemp & Myles Borne)
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there is no story to Wagner being off television after a notable push as a weekly TV character.
Meltzer wrote, “He’s just not been used, but there was no injury or anything like that and he wrestled prior to the NXT show this past week and was back on the show shooting the beginning of an angle with Noam Dar, seemingly replacing Josh Briggs in an angle they had been pushing for weeks.”
