It’s been nearly a year since William Regal returned to WWE on January 4 in a Vice President position. This was after his AEW departure after asking AEW/ROH President Tony Khan to be let out of his deal with the promotion early.
2023
Regal wanted to make a return to WWE so he could work with Triple H again and to be in NXT with his son, who wrestles as Charles Dempsey. Once back in WWE, he was back on the road where he worked as the Vice President of Global Talent Development. He helps wrestlers with their matches, taking notes and going over the bouts with them to improve things.
Regal had been Triple H’s right-hand man in NXT, which is why Triple H wanted to bring back a man for whom he has a ton of respect and who helped build NXT once taking over main roster creative
Going forward
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Regal’s non-compete regarding TV appearances is nearly up, meaning he can start appearing on television.
Meltzer speculated that since WWE has Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis as the General Managers of Raw and SmackDown, Regal could make cameos from time to time. It looks like Regal will primarily remain in his behind-the-scenes role.
