Backstage News On WWE King & Queen Of The Ring Tournament Matches Happening At House Shows

The WWE King & Queen of the Ring tournament is underway as things kicked off on Monday night during Raw, where Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor, while Ilja Dragunov beat Ricochet in his bout. Also on the show, Gunther defeated Sheamus, 

For the Queen of the Ring, Raw saw SJY, Lyra Valkyria, and Zoey Stark move along to the Quarterfinals, where Sky will face the winner of Shayna Baszler vs.Zelina Vega, while Stark will face Valkyria next week.

Next week will see Gunther vs. either Kofi Kingston or Rey Mysterio and Ilja Draguno vs. Jey Uso, as WWE previously confirmed Kingston vs. Mysterio in the King of the Ring tournament will take place at a house show this weekend. Also set for this weekend is Vega vs. Baszler.

The first-round King of the Ring matches for SmackDown include AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton, Baron Corbin vs. Carmelo Hayes, LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar, and Bobby Lashley vs. Tama Tonga.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that “participants for at least one of the matches that got moved off of Raw found out the day of.” It was also stated that “there wasn’t enough time between now and the PLE on May 25” for the Mysterio vs. Kingston & Vega vs. Baszler matches to happen on TV, so WWE moved it to live events.
