There’s been a lot of talk in recent weeks about CM Punk wanting to return to AEW. Dax Harwood has outright said that Punk wants to come back and he’s pushed the idea of Punk and FTR against Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks at the All Show in London.
While it appears that as of now that nothing has been agreed to in regards to Punk working with The Elite, there is a new report on Fightful Select that states that there are tentative plans for Punk’s return and he may be back as soon as June. Keep in mind that “tentative plans” means that things can always change.
Fightful adds that before AEW announced that they would be returning to Chicago for the Dynamite/Rampage go-home shows before Forbidden Door, the wheels were already in motion for Punk’s return to AEW TV, and the “working plan” has been for Punk to return at that 6/21 show. It was also noted that there were pitches made to announce his return well ahead of time.
It was noted in the report that a meeting was/is planned between Punk and Jericho to see if they can work together. There is no word on if The Elite are willing to work with him and Dave Meltzer hinted on Wrestling Observer Radio about things that have not gotten out that make things more complicated and less likely for The Elite to ever want to work with Punk but time can heal wounds so things can change.
