Brock Lesnar declined to wrestle Bray Wyatt at WWE WrestleMania

Brock Lesnar’s opponent at WWE WrestleMania Goes Hollywood has changed a few different times, but he is scheduled to wrestle Omos at the event, which is reportedly an idea from Vince McMahon.

Steve Austin was pitched about the possibility of wrestling Lesnar at the show, but Austin declined it. As previously reported by WrestlingNews.co, Lesnar was slated to wrestle Gunther at the event, something WWE teased during the 30-man Royal Rumble match.

Fightful Select confirmed WrestlingNews.co’s report about Gunther vs. Lesnar, being planned as internal WWE documents, had the match listed as of November 21 going into Survivor Series. It’s still unclear why the match was nixed. Fightful was told that Gunther vs. Lesnar was not considered for any extended period of time.

Bobby Lashley was on the table as Lesnar’s possible opponent, and Bray Wyatt was also pitched for Lesnar. It’s unclear when Wyatt was pitched as the opponent for Lesnar.

The report stated sources claim “that Brock himself nixed the idea,” of facing Wyatt, who had mentioned going after the winner of Lesnar vs. Lashley at the Elimination Chamber PLE going into the event on an episode of SmackDown.

All of this led to the plan of Omos vs. Lesnar for WrestleMania. It was hinted to Fightful “that there was an undisclosed “backup,” but that it isn’t factored into creative plans.” While Fightful couldn’t confirm who pitched Omos vs. Lesnar, they could confirm that Lesnar approved the match.

Regarding McMahon having an input in the match, Fightful was told by sources close to Lesnar that had indicated that it “could be true.” Sources in WWE creative stated that this wasn’t a McMahon decision and that McMahon has had no direct contact with creative.
