Kenny Omega’s future in AEW has been widely speculated about among fans as his deal was slated to expire in late January. AEW extended the deal for the time that he missed while out with injuries. As of this writing, it’s unknown how much time was added to the deal. WWE is interested in signing Omega once he’s free and clear to talk.
Konnan recently told Nick Hausman he wanted Omega to face El Hijo Del Vikingo at Sunday’s AAA TripleMania show, but Omega’s contract negotiations with AEW prevented the match from being booked.
Konnan said that Omega wouldn’t commit because he’s still negotiating with AEW. Some people took Konnan saying that he is “assuming” Omega has re-signed with AEW as Omega actually signed a new deal with the promotion despite the fact that Konnan noted that he “never really asked him but there are plans for him in the future so I’m thinking he already signed.”
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Omega is still working under his old extended contract and hasn’t signed a new one yet.
“Okay, the stuff with Kenny Omega. Konnan did an interview, and it got people thinking that Kenny Omega had signed a new contract. Kenny Omega is under contract with AEW. His contract was extended because he was out for, I think, nine months due to injuries. I believe that he is under contract until around November or December. There is no new deal that’s been signed,” Meltzer stated.
