Colby Corino Addresses Deal With WWE Falling Through

Over the last few months, there have been conflicting reports regarding there being a hiring freeze going on in WWE, with some people saying they’re still hiring while others deny that belief.

It was reported this past January that Colby Corino, the son of Steve Corino, was expected to come into the promotion with the idea he would start training at the Performance Center.

Over the weekend, Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam reported that the current “hiring freeze” affects Corino. Initially, Haynes was told that wouldn’t be the case, but things have seemingly changed. Corino never signed a WWE deal but was offered one with both sides agreeing to it, but after the company agreed to be acquired by Endeavor, the process with Corino stopped.

While appearing on Wrestling Friends with Matt Koon, Corino was asked whether he’s still signed to WWE.

“I’m not sure I’d be able to do this interview if I was,” Corino answered.

Corino then went into detail regarding the talks with the company.

“I got the offer from WWE, and everything was agreed to verbally. They said, ‘Before we send you this contract, we have to do this background check.’ All good. I’ve already been background checked by them before when I did my first tryout a few years ago. Nothing new should be of surprise. I didn’t do anything wrong the past couple of years. I got nothing to hide. Everything on there, they already know. After I get my offer, I get ready to move my family down to Florida,” Corino stated.

Corino continued by talking about how he and his wife were excited as it felt like a dream come true after years of hard work. However, things went sideways after setting up the move to Florida.

“After we did all that and get the offer, a few weeks ago, after I get the paperwork for the background check, and again starting to get a little anxious because it’s been three or four weeks and no word. Starting to come up on the date when I’m supposed to move to Florida. We were supposed to move down to Florida on Sunday, and on that Monday before, I get a call. I get told there was a problem with my background check and there was something from seven years ago that I needed to handle that, and after that, I’d be good. Now, I’m good to go, and it seems like that’s not the case anymore,” Corino stated.

Corino was asked to clarify his comments, leading to him noting that he doesn’t have all of the info he wants yet.

“I don’t have all the information that I want about the situation, but I know that, for right now, it’s not a closed door, but it’s kind of a ‘not right now’ thing,” Corino stated.

Regarding whether the situation was related to the believed hiring freeze, he’s not sure as he wasn’t told that. Click below for the entire interview:
