AEW presented its Full Gear event from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles last month with a loaded card and was a success on pay-per-view.
The show
AEW President Tony Khan noted coming out of the show while speaking to the media after the event that the show is looking to have done over 100,000 buys and was going to finish above WrestleDream. That trend is looking promising.
Full Gear was headlined by MJF retaining the World Heavyweight Title over Jay White. It also featured the signing of top NJPW Will Ospreay to AEW, Swerve Strickland defeating “Hangman” Adam Page in a classic Texas Death match, and Toni Storm defeating Hikaru Shida to win her record-tying third AEW Women’s World Title.
The numbers
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the TV buys at this time is up 31.2 percent from WrestleDream in October.
Meltzer wrote, “But about 135,000 [total] buys looks a reasonable estimate at this point, could be a little higher or lower.”
The increase from the first week to the second week for TV buys saw a 36.3 percent increase.
