Fans shouldn’t expect to see CM Punk return at WWE Survivor Series

The time for this year’s WWE Survivor Series premium live event in Chicago is upon us as the company looks to end 2023 with a bang by presenting its final PLE of the year. While most fans are looking forward to the show, there are still some fans holding out hope that CM Punk could make a return to WWE this Saturday.

What’s been reported

As previously reported, WWE talent and higher-ups have said that no talks have taken place as Vince McMahon decided not to bring back the former WWE Champion. Nick Khan and Triple H have agreed as well, meaning Punk remains on the free agent market following his release from AEW due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry.

There have also been Punk references on television, although those references are reportedly not intended as hints. That hasn’t stopped fans from thinking he’s returning.

WWE went out of their way to announce Randy Orton’s return as the mystery partner for World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes against The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, JD McDonagh & Dominik Mysterio) and Drew McIntyre in the Men’s WarGames Match at Survivor Series to make it clear that it wouldn’t be Punk.

No plans

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer backed up a previous Fightful report, noting that Punk isn’t expected to be at Survivor Series.

Meltzer wrote, “If WWE was to bring in Punk, this night or Smackdown the night before would be the place to debut him. We’ve seen no evidence this is happening and those close to the situation have denied it, but it is possible it’s a well-kept secret.”
