Former WWE star made his AEW in-ring debut before Dynamite with his old theme music

Fans who attended Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite were in for a special treat as a former WWE star was in action.

The moment

Scotty 2 Hotty made his AEW debut in Orlando when the AEW coach teamed up with the Acclaimed and Daddy Ass to beat the Gunns, Matt Menard, and Jake Hager in an eight-man tag team match. Although he wrestled on the independent scene in recent years, this was his first match in AEW.

Scotty 2 Hotty found success in 1998 after signing with WWE the prior year as a tag team with Brian Christopher, where they formed Too Much, later known as Too Cool. He departed in 2007.

During his WWE run, he held the Tag Team Titles twice and had a run as the Light Heavyweight Champion. In 2016, he returned to WWE as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center. He left the company in late 2021.

How it came to be

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that “he’s been considered for matches in the company in the past and has been open to performing for them in addition to his coaching duties.”

The reason AEW could use the original Too Cool theme music is because they have the rights to the music library that also includes Hardcore Holly, Crash Holly, and Hardy Boyz themes.
