ESPN’s Mike Coppinger is reporting that Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson is now training in Orlando at the WWE Performance Center after an ablation was performed on his heart last month. Steveson underwent the procedure due to Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome.
Steveson told ESPN that this was first discovered last year before flying to Tokyo for the Olympics but he held off on the procedure until he got advice from WWE’s medical staff.
Steveson told ESPN that the process took “many months” after WPW was discovered and WWE’s process included recommendations for him to see top cardiologists. WWE’s Paul “Triple H” Levesque said, “We’re glad to see that Gable is healthy and training full-time at our Performance Center in Orlando.”
WPW syndrome causes rapid heartbeat. Per Jon Hopkins Medicine, an ablation “uses small burns or freezes to cause some scarring on the inside of the heart to help break up the electrical signals that cause irregular heartbeats.”
Steveson signed a multi-year contract with WWE in 2021 and there were plans for him to be featured on Raw after this year’s WrestleMania. The company has high hopes for him to become a top name on the level of someone like Brock Lesnar. Steveson’s brother Bobby wrestles as Damon Kemp on NXT.
