Gangrel Says He Never Won a WWE Title Because of a Backstage Scandal

In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall spoke with former WWE star Gangrel, also known as the leader of The Brood during the Attitude Era. We have highlights below and be sure to scroll down to watch the interview.

Gangrel on Jim Johnston on writing The Brood’s WWE entrance music:

“There’s a lot of stuff to that music. There’s backmasking in there, the whispering and stuff like that. If you played it backwards, it would say, ‘I buried Paul’, something like that of that nature because he’s a big Beatles fan. He asked me what I thought for music. What was I feeling? I said, ‘Well there’s this cool song by the Toadies, Possum Kingdom.’ If you listen to Possum Kingdom you’ll hear all of that same, like you hear with the entrance of my music. I hear the beats and just speed it up and slow down in different areas. Other people don’t, but I do, but it really, to me, comes from Possum Kingdom.”

Gangrel on not winning a WWE title over a backstage scandal in 1999:

“I know for a fact I was supposed to win that night, but there were some disciplinary actions and I was innocent, but I got caught up in the middle of some stuff and it didn’t happen. Big scandal where somebody, I don’t know who it was, a backstage guy, he was taping people trying to sell him a bunch of steroids or something like. It was this big thing. Everybody had to get disciplined that even went in there and met with the guy. I happen to be one of the guys who was in there even though I didn’t do anything or whatnot, but I just got caught up in all that. That was weird stuff. I was just caught up in the wrong group. I could honestly say that it did cost me winning the European title that night.”
