Harvey Wippleman Says He Was Legitimately Knocked Out By Giant Gonzalez

In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall interviewed former WWE manager Harvey Wippleman, also known as Downtown Bruno in the Memphis territory. Harvey talked about Memphis, his run in the WWF, behind-the-scenes stories, and more. We have the full interview below along with some transcribed highlights.

Harvey Wippleman on traveling with Giant Gonzalez:

“The only vehicle who’s seat would go back far enough because he learned that from experience in his previous travels was a Cadillac Coupe De Ville or whatever. I can’t remember, but a certain Cadillac. We had to reserve one everywhere we went because he could not function in another vehicle. I guess the leg in the seat wouldn’t go back far enough. I did all the driving, which I didn’t mind.”

Harvey Wippleman on being legitimately knocked out by Giant Gonzalez:

“Paul Bearer made his return at SummerSlam ‘94 when Gonzalez was wrestling Undertaker. Paul Bearer came running out of the back, hit me, took the urn back away from me that we stole from Undertaker, and Gonzalez ended up losing the match. After the match, Gonzalez was fussing at me, sat me in the ring, chokeslam, up, down. I mean, he’s eight feet tall legit. Picture his arm way up in the air picking me up. It’s got to be like 10 or 11 feet up in the air. He wasn’t the best performer in the ring. I had been in the business 16 or 17 years. That’s the first time I was legitimately knocked out.”
