IYO SKY & Dakota Kai Talk Bayley-WrestleMania, Why WWE Needs More Women Writers And A Mid-card Title

In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall interviewed Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai and WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY ahead of IYO’s title match with Bayley at WrestleMania.

IYO and Dakota were asked if there was anyone who could be added to Damage CTRL:

IYO: “I feel Damage CTRL feels perfect but maybe one more because Bayley’s out.”

Kai: “I’m trying to think who would be awesome in that role. I would want someone like, I’m thinking about NXT girls. Their roster is amazing right now. Roxanne Perez.”

On what Bayley means to them behind the scenes:

Kai: “Obviously we have our tensions right now but we can’t look past the fact Bayley is literally the one that gave us the opportunity to be a part of a group on Raw and SmackDown…I wasn’t with the company, IYO was in NXT at the time and we got the opportunity to create that at SummerSlam 2022. She has given us so many opportunities throughout the years and we came really close. There’s a lot of history there and I think with this title match on Sunday there’s gonna be a lot on the line. Not just the championship but a lot of personal issues and we’ll have to hash it out in the ring.”

IYO on Bayley: “She’s a true leader of us. I’m very grateful about it but also I have to become stronger so that’s why I have to beat Bayley.”

Kai on the crowd cheering IYO over Bianca Belair: “I loved that crowd so much. We have to go back to Puerto Rico.”

On women needing more matches on PLEs: “I 100 percent agree and I’ve been asked this a few times in terms about a mid-card title for the women. I think that would be incredible to add that because there’s a lot of women that aren’t on TV right now that are insanely talented. On the top of my head, Alba Fyre who’s insane. She’s been doing it a long time. Chelsea Green. There’s a lot of women…an additional championship would be incredible. That would give so many opportunities to the women that aren’t getting them right now.”

On if more women need to be on the creative team: “100 percent and it’s not anything against the creative team [because] they’re insanely talented but women understand women and I think we can only push ourselves in the right direction and I think that would be incredible for there to be more women behind the scenes. In terms of writers, in terms of producers, in terms of everything — it’s like, women rule man. The more opportunities we get, the more it will help us too.”
