Jake Roberts on A&E doc, Vince McMahon’s broken promise, nixed storyline with Hulk Hogan, more

Jake “The Snake” Roberts spoke with Steve Fall in an exclusive interview for WrestlingNews.co.

The WWE Hall of Famer spoke about his A&E documentary:

“I was very happy with it. It’s more of therapy for me. The trouble was whenever I was trying to keep everything a secret, that’s when it caused me problems because I’d get just so down about it, and so angry about it, that I would turn to doing drugs or alcohol. I had to get that stuff out and talk about it and get rid of it, and now I’m good with it.”

On getting injured when Honky Tonk Man hit him with his guitar on The Snake Pit:

“They sent somebody out to get one (a guitar), and the guy came back with a real goddamn guitar. The thing was a half inch thick, plus it had fiberglass on top of that. It was a $500 guitar. It was so thick that in the back, they tried to carve notches in the back so it would break, but they didn’t carve enough. The other thing is he shouldn’t have hit me in the head. He should hit me across the back. The head can’t take that. He came from an angle so it just, boom, blasted me down, which blew out my C6 and blew out my C7 disc. Unfortunately, I’m hard headed. I didn’t immediately go for doctor help. I wanted to keep going, and that’s where I made my mistake by keeping going because you know, you start taking pills to get rid of the pain, and the next thing you know, you’re kind of liking that feeling, and then you just keep going. For two years, I wrestled with that to the point that I couldn’t lift my left arm.”

Jake will be doing some comedy shows coming up in the near future:

“I’ll be doing my comedy show. I do a comedy show, believe it or not. I’ll be doing that May 5th in Boston at Kowloon. The 6th, I’m going to Zombie Hideout in Springfield. The 7th, I’m in Hartford at The Funny Bone. The 13th, I’m in Bonkers in Orlando. The 30th of April, I’m at The Hard Rock in Pittsburgh.”
