In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall interviewed former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas. During the interview, Korderas shared some behind-the-scenes stories from his 20+ years with WWE.On the Montreal Screwjob:
“Earl felt bad. Of course he did, but at the end of the day, you work for someone, you either do the job he wants you to do or you’re not going to end up working for him. So he did what he felt he had to do.”
On the worst injury he took on a ref bump:
“At WrestleMania IV during the Intercontinental match with Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake and the Honky Tonk Man, there’s a spot where Brutus gets Honky in the sleeper. Jimmy Hart pops up on the apron. I go to him and try to convince him to get down, and when I turn my back, he waffles me with the megaphone. Now, he doesn’t hurt me, but when I take my faceplant, my hands slide out, my chin hits the canvas, and because we’re right by the ropes, that’s the hardest part of the ring, you know, the stiffest. It hit the sweet spot. Let’s put it that way, and boom, I’m out. As far as injury wise, that wasn’t the worst but cognitively, I knocked myself out.”
“There’s other stuff where, and I know you can’t see it here, my thumb looks a little bigger here, especially in the joint. That thumb ended up down here one time in a match. I was sliding out of the ring getting chased by the Legion of Doom, and the thumb ended up back here because it caught the ring apron. I ended up finishing the match believe it or not counting left handed. When I got to the back, they said, ‘What’s wrong with your thumb?’ I was like’ Oh, my goodness.”
The full video interview below includes Korderas talking about bonding with Eddie Guerrero, being in the ring when Owen Hart fell at Over The Edge 1999, referee names not being mentioned on WWE TV, Jake Roberts and The Boogeyman being difficult to work with, the Montreal Screwjob, and a lot more.
