John Cena expected to be at WWE WrestleMania 39

It looks like WWE will get its wish to have John Cena at WrestleMania 39 in April.

WWE is bringing back Cena for the December 30 edition of SmackDown, where he will team up with Kevin Owens against Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn for a tag match.

The match will be Cena’s only in-ring outing this year, maintaining his record of working a match every year since his main roster debut in 2002.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Cena is currently expected to be at WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, California. There had been some doubt about whether he could make it due to his busy filming schedule.

Meltzer wrote, “the belief is that Cena will be working WrestleMania but what we were told is that he’s working on his schedule to make sure it works, but the belief is that he’ll get it done.”

The report added that “Cena will be unavailable to WWE through most of February and March due to filming a movie outside the US.”

It’s still unclear who he will be wrestling at the show, but under the Vince McMahon regime, the company was looking to have him wrestle Austin Theory as the former Chairman and CEO thought Theory could be the next John Cena. With Triple H now in control of creative, that may have changed. Both stars have expressed interest in wrestling each other.
