John Cena is returning to WWE to close out 2022.
Variety reported today that the former WWE Champion is set to appear on the final SmackDown of the year on December 30, which will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.
Per the report, more announcements are planned for the episode in the coming weeks.
Cena returned to WWE TV to celebrate his 20th anniversary with the company this past June on Raw and was introduced by Vince McMahon. In his promo during this appearance, he spoke about his time with the company and wasn’t sure when he would wrestle again.
The “Summer of Cena” tour in 2021 ended when he lost to Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at SummerSlam in August. This was his last run with the company.
As previously reported, Cena is expected to wrestle at WWE WrestleMania 39 next April.
While away from WWE, Cena has continued to focus on his acting career as he starred in the DC series “Peacemaker” at HBO Max, reprising the role he played in James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” film.
