Jon Jones will be making his return to the Octagon this weekend when he fights Ciryl Gane in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 285 PPV, marking Jones’ heavyweight debut after ruling the light heavyweight division for several years.
Jones recently listed Brock Lesnar as an opponent he wished he could have fought, but the timing just didn’t work out as Jones took a hiatus from MMA for a few years to make the move to heavyweight.
It was 2008 when Jones entered the UFC, the same year that Lesnar got his first win in the UFC. Lesnar and Jones fought on the same card a few different times including UFC 87 and UFC 100. Lesnar retired from MMA for good in 2016 after his win over Mark Hunt was overturned due to him failing pre-fight drug tests.
While speaking to Sporting News Fights, Jones talked about what could have been.
“I think fighting Brock Lesnar would have been really cool,” Jones stated. “You know, Brock isn’t the most technical fighter, but he has a massive fanbase, he’s a lot bigger than me, and it would have been one of those cool David and Goliath situations. It would have been cool for cross-sport promoting and I think we both would have done great things for our families and for our team. You know, financially, that would have been massive. Never say never. Brock, if you’re out there….”
Lesnar will wrestle Omos this April at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood.
