LA Knight on People Comparing Him to The Rock: ‘It Doesn’t Matter’

WWE SmackDown star LA Knight was recently interviewed by Inside The Ropes. We have a couple of transcribed highlights below. Scroll down to watch the entire interview.

LA Knight on not being on the WrestleMania 39 card:

“There’s a couple different ways to look at this and I’m sure there’s a lot of people who are probably just like, ‘Well, you know, you were only active on the roster since October. WrestleMania is in April.’ There’s probably a lot of people who are in that same spot who wouldn’t have been at WrestleMania, but there was a big difference there. Not to toot my own horn, but toot, toot, yea.”

“There was a whole fever that was starting to pick up around that time and I’d say it was probably around early March in that lead-up to WrestleMania. So to hear that, and to be aware of that, and then at the last minute there wasn’t going to be anything for me on there, it was a big letdown. At the same time, what can I do? Gotta keep moving, gotta keep doing my thing, and at the same time, I guess I can also understand the thought might be, ‘Well, you know, this could just be fluke reactions. Maybe this isn’t gonna last. Maybe this is just, you know, what it’s been three weeks, four weeks or whatever since these reactions been starting to pick up. Maybe it’s just a flash in the pan, flavor of the month, it’s gonna go away’, and here we are months and months later, more than a half year later, and it’s only picked up.”

If he is tired of being compared to The Rock and Steve Austin:

“It doesn’t matter. I’ve heard that since the very beginning. I’ve heard that since I started in 2003. You know, when I first started, people would say, ‘Oh, he sounds like The Rock or he sounds like Austin, or even my very first set of gear, I think it was like my second set of gear when I was in Ohio, I had red and yellow, ‘Oh, he’s being Hulk Hogan.’ Everybody’s always going to make a comparison of some sort. I’m 100% influenced by those guys, absolutely. I’m influenced by Flair. I’m influenced by Savage. I’m influenced by Jake the Snake. I’m influenced by other entities outside of wrestling. I’m influenced by musical artists and by actors. So I mean, yeah, all that stuff’s in there. At the end of the day, you put all that together, you get that conglomeration, you got yourself LA Knight.”

“I got to tell you what. Look at what I’m doing and people say that maybe my cadence sounds like somebody, or maybe my tone sounds like somebody. Brother, I’m watching people do gimmicks from 20 years ago just straight up, hand signals and exact catchphrases and dressing just like the guys and all this kind of stuff to where it’s like, wait a minute, I’m getting called out?”
