In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall spoke with NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria ahead of her title match with Roxanne Perez at Stand & Deliver.
Valkyria what Shawn Michaels means as a mentor:
“As a mentor, he’s been incredible. I owe him a lot in my career. He took a chance on me very early on. He’s incredible.”
Lyra Valkyria on if there was jealousy that she won the NXT Women’s Championship as quickly as she did:
“There’s always gonna be a sense of jealousy. You get this and there’s a target on your back instantly, but it only creates more competition, and I’m not afraid of competition. So it’s a good thing, really.”
If her goal is to be on next year’s WrestleMania:
“Absolutely. Anyone who comes here and says their goal isn’t WrestleMania, I feel like you’re doing this business wrong.”
On possibly seeing NXT titles defended on the main roster:
“I think that would be very cool. I’m really excited that our show gets to kick off the biggest WrestleMania of all time. We’re the first thing going up.”
On NXT traveling outside of the PC:
“I definitely feel we’re on the road a whole lot now with PLE’s. We got Battleground coming up in Georgia. We got Heatwave in Canada, it’s gonna be incredible. We’re traveling more and more and more. We still got the live events every two weeks or so in Florida as well so I feel like yea, we’re traveling a lot…”
On if the weekly show could move into arenas:
“I think we could definitely pull it off but we also got a very special thing going on with the crowd every week as well. The arena we have for NXT is a very special thing as well.”
On a possible if she’d want to see Jordynne Grace challenge for the NXT Championship:
“I’m down for any competition that comes my way.”
