In an exclusive interview for WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall spoke with Stardom’s Mariah May.
Mariah May on how she started with Stardom:
“Mina (Shirakawa) actually found Xia (Brookside) and I. She’s forming this team Club Venus. She was looking for international talent because it’s the number one international team. So she was looking for the best of the best international talent and she actually found me and took me to Stardom.”
Thoughts on Mercedes Monet wrestling for New Japan:
“I was there and a few other girls from Stardom were there because you know, you got to check out the competition. I knew she was coming, so I had to be there. Wrestle Kingdom is amazing, but especially for the IWGP women’s match and I knew Mercedes was coming. So yeah, I was there. It was very cool to be in the room when she came out, so it definitely shook things up. I’m very excited to see what happens next. You know, there’s a lot of women I think she’s going to mix it up with. It’s gonna be really cool. So yeah, I was glad I could be there for that. It was kind of surreal because I debuted for Stardom not even a week before, and then Mercedes debuted and obviously like, I watched her when I was finishing school and deciding like, you know, do I really want to wrestle or want to wrestle, but I needed that kick to do it. I remember watching some of her matches and being like, I want to wrestle like that. It’s kind of weird that now I’ve debuted for a company and then she debuted.”
On her WWE tryout in 2019:
“Well, that feels like a lifetime ago. They reached out to me. When they reached out to me I had two matches or one match, and then by the time I had my tryout, I think I’ve had like four matches. It was an amazing experience. The tryout itself, there might be a wrestling match, but it’s a lot of drills and fitness and promos. So all of that I had been training really hard because I trained quite a bit before I actually had my first match. So on that side of things like cool, great, but yeah, it was kind of surreal when they asked me. I thought it was fake. I immediately checked the handle because I was like, I had one match. That was a great experience too. I learned a lot from that as well.”
