MJF expected to make AEW return ‘somewhat soon’

Fans haven’t seen MJF on AEW programming since the post-Double or Nothing edition of Dynamite, where he did a work/shoot promo by expressing his frustration with the promotion, demanded that AEW President Tony Khan fire him, and called him a mark.

However, it looks like MJF is coming back shortly. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “MJF is currently scheduled to be returning somewhat soon.”

The report noted that the negotiations for a new AEW TV deal will likely begin in a few months and go into the spring. With the recent drop in AEW’s TV ratings, AEW will be regaining its star power after several wrestlers have been on the injured list.

The promotion is expected to get MJF and Adan Cole back in action for this fall and winter to help improve the ratings.

It’s believed Tony Khan was going to have MJF feud with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, but Punk suffered an injury, and MJF’s return to AEW television had been delayed. With Punk back on television, they can move forward with that feud if the AEW President still wants to do so.

As previously reported, some within AEW still believe MJF is on his way out of the company with the idea of him joining WWE as his contract expires in January 2024. For now, he remains under contract with AEW.
