MJF pushed for AEW Collision match with Kenny Omega

MJF has been on an incredible run as the AEW World heavyweight Champion since winning the title last year from Jon Moxley at Full Gear. He has been all over television as the top star for the promotion, in addition to his recent babyface turn and pairing with Adam Cole as the ROH Tag Team Champions before Cole was sidelined with an injury that needed surgery.

MJF’s World title reign

MJF’s latest title defense as World Champion was against Kenny Omega on the October 28 episode of AEW Collision, set up when Omega wanted to prevent MJF from becoming the longest-reigning champion in AEW history. MJF broke the record of 346 days as AEW Champion.

MJF asked for this free TV match

While speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated about the bout, MJF noted he pushed for the match.

“I wanted a match with Kenny Omega, the best in the world in a pay-per-view main event–but on free television because I’m salt of the earth. That is the best match in Collision history and one of the best in AEW history.”

MJF added that it was a big deal for the promotion, and it felt like Omega was handing him the baton of being the top dog in AEW. “I couldn’t be more grateful that Kenny gave me that opportunity.”

MJF’s next title defense will be against Jay White at the Full Gear pay-per-view event this Saturday.
