MJF Slapping Renee Paquette’s Mic on AEW Dynamite Was Not the Original Plan

This past Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a segment where AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF was approached by Renee Paquette, who asked him how he felt about his next title defense.

MJF is slated to defend his title in a fatal 4-way match against Sammy Guevara, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, and Darby Allin at Double or Nothing next Sunday night.

Instead of just answering the question, the top star slapped the microphone out of her hands and walked away.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported, “The segment where MJF slapped the mic out of Renee Paquette’s hands was not the original plan.”

There was supposed to be a segment with everyone in the match as well as Britt Baker where Baker stated that if MJF wins, he won’t hold the title for long Bay Bay, indicating her boyfriend, Adam Cole, would be getting the next title shot.

However, “There was something about it that was deemed not good, and instead of doing it again, they changed to what they did.” Meltzer speculated the decision might have been made so fans wouldn’t know Cole was getting the next shot and indicating MJF was winning at Double or Nothing.
