John Cena’s “Coyote vs Acme,” a live-action/CG animation hybrid movie, is still alive after Warner Bros. decided to shelve the project indefinitely after spending $70 million on it. Warner Bros. is allowing the filmmakers to shop the movie around to other movie studios after the backlash of the news that the movie wouldn’t be released.
The film
Cena plays the Acme Corporation’s CEO character. The movie was filmed last year in New Mexico. Green is best known for directing Earth to Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Chris DeFaria and James Gunn produced the film.
Dave Green directed the movie based on the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote from Warner Bros. Wile E. Coyote is a character who endlessly fails in his attempts to capture and kill his nemesis, the Road Runner.
The future
Deadline Hollywood reports Netflix and Paramount have made formal bids for the film. Paramount’s proposal was for it to be released in theaters next year along with streaming on Paramount.
Per the report, sources stated Warner Bros. Discovery wants “$70 million and then some” to cover the initial tax write-off for Warner Bros.
Amazon is reportedly mulling over putting in a bid, while Apple and Sony, who have also seen the film, are not interested.
