Last October, Nigel McGuinness was released by WWE.
His departure was around when WWE announced a major shakeup of its commentary teams, with new teams set for Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. McGuinness didn’t have a role on any of those teams.
McGuinness signed with WWE back in 2016, initially as an announcer for the WWE UK Classic before being brought on as a commentator for various shows, including NXT, NXT UK, Main Event, and 205 Live.
McGuinness made his first public comments since departing WWE last year by posting the following on his Twitter account:
Appreciate all the kind wishes. Good year ahead.

McGuinness would be an excellent hire for any promotion, whether as a commentator or a coach/producer, after a successful career as a wrestler. Many fans thought he would be a great fit for ROH due to his history with the promotion.
Although that has yet to happen, Tony Khan does plan to do weekly TV with episodes airing on HonorClub.
