Last February it was revealed that WWE color commentator Pat McAfee is facing a lawsuit alongside Shannon Sharpe from legendary Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre.
Favre accuses them of making defamatory remarks against him regarding the Mississippi welfare case fraud so he sued them in addition to Mississippi Auditor Shad White.
The suit notes McAfee called Favre a “thief” who was “stealing from poor people in Mississippi.” This stems from Favre being accused that he got $5 million from the welfare fund to pay for a volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi, the alma mater of Favre.
The former QB repaid the $1.1 million he got but not the $228,000 interest that was asked for and claimed to be not aware of the source of the funds that he got. When the lawsuit against McAfee first broke, he addressed it on his radio show.
Pro Football Talk has an update on the case, which was filed in Lamar County, Mississippi. It was moved due to a request by McAfee from being held in state court to federal court.
This was approved as McAfee doesn’t live in Mississippi like Favre and federal law states cases filed in state court against out-of-state defendants can be moved to federal court if the plaintiff is seeking more than $75,000. Favre didn’t list a specific demand in dollars in the lawsuit.
After being on hiatus from WWE while focusing on his ESPN GameDay gig, McAfee made a one-night return at the Royal Rumble. He has stated that his future with WWE is up in the air due to various factors in his life such as becoming a father as well as the potential sale of the company.
