WWE CEO Nick Khan has been credited with the strategy currently in place for NXT with the idea of using main roster stars in NXT to work with the younger talent and help boost NXT ratings.
The latest example of that led to a notable boost in ratings. Wes Lee had been the North American Champion going into Tuesday’s episode of NXT before he dropped it to Dominik Mysterio in the main event. This week’s was the second-highest ratings of the year and second-highest total viewership since 2021.
NXT drew its highest total viewership since 2021, when World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defended his title against Bron Breakker.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there are some people in NXT who are pushing for more of this to do better ratings than Dynamite.
Meltzer wrote, “The two points most talked about by different people were that this is a contract year so these gains are coming at a great time for the renewal price, and those in NXT who are definitely pushing for the idea of doing numbers that beat Dynamite.”
During the Wednesday Night Wars, Dynamite beat NXT nearly every week in the ratings until WWE moved NXT to Tuesday night.
