WWE will be without Sami Zayn heading into 2024 after having a breakout year this year thanks to his feud with The Bloodline and alliance with Kevin Owens.
The angle
As previously reported, on Monday Night Raw last week, WWE did an injury spot in Zayn’s match with Drew McIntyre, allowing McIntyre to go over. Zayn was being looked at by the medical staff when McIntyre attacked him.
Zayn reportedly asked for time off, and WWE granted it. At the time, it wasn’t clear exactly when the hiatus would start. A week later on Monday’s Raw, WWE said Zayn was “injured” with a “partially torn meniscus,” with no timeframe given for his return.
Time off
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer brought up his original report about Zayn taking time off, although he hasn’t heard whether Zayn is dealing with a legitimate injury.
“I was told that he had asked for time off. The partially torn meniscus may be legit because guys are always hurt anyway. Last week…..I was told Sami is gonna be off for a while. He asked for time off. Not over an injury or anything like that…I don’t know if he’s got a partially torn meniscus or not. He very possibly does, but he actually asked time off, regarding the injury situation,” Meltzer stated.
