As was noted earlier, the exclusive negotiating window between WWE and FOX/NBCUniversal has ended, which means that WWE can now talk with other entities while continuing talks with their current partners.
The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported today about the possibility of Amazon getting into discussions with WWE to add live pro wrestling to their schedule in addition to NFL Thursday Night Football.
The report also states that Disney is interested in getting WWE programming on FX. The relationship between Endeavor and Disney/ESPN could be what helps them get a deal done with FX. A move to FX would be ideal because it ensures that WWE programming won’t get interrupted for other live sports. However, this could open the door to something more with ESPN, perhaps live specials since ESPN is under the Disney umbrella. Weekly live programming on ESPN seems to be out of the question because WWE would be pre-empted for live sports for many weeks out of the year.
It is worth keeping in mind that we are a long way from a deal getting done and industry experts say that NBCU and FOX are still the frontrunners to keep WWE programming. WWE’s deal with NBCUniversal (USA Network) and FOX expires in the Fall of 2024.
